Black Bear Medical is recognized as Maine’s leader for medical equipment supplies and services. A Maine owned company founded in 1988, we have primary locations in Portland at 275 Marginal Way, and in Bangor at 1113 Stillwater Ave. We have a small satellite location in Greenland, New Hampshire right off of I-95 in the Portsmouth area.

We are unique in that we are a multi-faceted supplier. We are Maine's largest wheelchair dealer and can service your needs from the most basic manual wheelchair to the most complex powered mobility. We have two of the most gifted custom wheelchair rep’s in New England with Claude Levesque in our Bangor store and Don McKenna in our Portland office. Tom Adams brings 25 years experience to our New Hampshire location and all are highly sought after extremely competent Certified Rehab Technology Suppliers (CRTS). For custom wheelchairs, we are the preferred provider for national insurers Aetna, CIGNA and United Healthcare. We also have contracts with all the major health insurance companies in Maine including Anthem, Martin’s Point, and Harvard Pilgrim.

However, the wheelchair business is only half of what we offer. We also carry all the common Durable Medical Equipment products like canes, crutches, walkers, commodes and hospital beds. We have an extensive medical supply offering and over 800 clients get their on going supplies from us.

We have home accessibility products like Stairglides, Vertical Wheelchair lifts and modular ramps, along with different types of vehicle lifts and ramps.

What really makes us different is our large retail showrooms in which we offer the widest selection of healthcare goods available.
